Menaggio
Loveno, a very sunny area, is a place of particular charm where artists and personalities loved to stay in splendid villas among which stands out Villa Mylius Vigoni, bequeathed by Ignazio Vigoni to the Federal Republic of Germany, now the seat of a cultural association which organizes conferences at a high level, the Italian-German Center for European Excellence. In addition to the Villa Mylius Vigoni, the hamlet of Loveno hosts the Villa Garovaglio Ricci which is also part of the Villa Vigoni complex. Villa Garovaglio Ricci is linked to the memory of Alfonso Garovaglio, historian and archaeologist, as well as to Francesco Pasquale Ricci, a well-known musician. No less prestigious are Villa Govone, on whose facade a plaque recalls Massimo D’Azeglio’s stays in Loveno, and in lower Loveno Villa Bolza and Villa Belfaggio. Another point of interest in the hamlet of Loveno is the parish church of SS. Lorenzo and Agnese, immersed in the greenery of the parks and of ancient foundation. It was rebuilt between 1725 and 1738, and is a notable example of Baroque art. The interior, with a single nave with four side chapels and altars in precious marble, bears witness to the wealth of the community that provided for the embellishment of the church. Of great beauty is the frontal in scagliola that adorns the altar of the second chapel on the left; on the altar there is a wooden statue of the Madonna and Child by Lorenzo Matieli from 1737. In the first chapel on the right you can admire the beautiful altarpiece depicting the “Madonna dei Sette Dolori fra i SS Lorenzo, Agnese e donori.” The real estate market in Menaggio is growing rapidly and you can find beautiful houses for sale, villas of all types and apartments in the center or on the hills, ideal as an investment.
